U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken intends to discuss bilateral relations and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a ministerial session of the Arctic Council, the U.S. Foreign Office reported.

During a trip to Denmark, the US Secretary of State was asked by reporters whether he intended to raise the issue of the controversial Baltic gas pipeline in a conversation with the Russian foreign minister.

“I believe that this could appear in bilateral negotiations (with representatives of the Danish government). I think the same applies to Lavrov. We, like Congress, have made our position on Nord Stream 2 very clear and stated that this is a Russian strategic project that undermines European security, European energy security, ”Blinken said.

“We are not looking for an escalation, we are just looking for a more predictable, more stable relationship. And I think there are areas within which we can talk about that with Foreign Minister Lavrov, ”the head of the State Department added.
